Case Study:  Michelin-Starred California Restaurant

Donec ac urna Our partnership with Hospice Du Rhône, a wine industry non-profit whose mission is to improve the business conditions of the grape growers and wine producers of Rhône variety wines and grapes worldwide, brought us to Six Test Kitchen, a high-end Michelin-starred restaurant with a mission to continually push the boundaries of culinary thinking. 


To capture the essence of this exceptional dining experience and partnership with Hospice Du Rhone, we conducted a comprehensive photography shoot highlighting every restaurant aspect. Working closely with the restaurant staff, we captured stunning images of the elegant interior, professional service, and exquisite dishes the talented chef and sommelier created. Our photographs also captured candid moments of the dedicated employees in action, providing an intimate glimpse into the effort and hard work of delivering an unforgettable dining experience. The resulting photographs showcased the restaurant's unique aesthetic and culinary offerings. Sunrise Packaging


Project Summary:  Food Packaging Manufacturer

Sunrise Packaging is a prolific food packaging company based in California, and for the launch of their new on-line presence, Sunrise hired Julian to develop a new brand feel and personality and translate that to imagery for their refresh.


The key challenges were defining and capturing the essence of Sunrise through photography. They were creating visually appealing product images that showcase the unique characteristics of the company, employees and products. 


Julian worked closely with Sunrisem to develop a photography style aligned with their brand vision and values. He created a set of guidelines for product photography to ensure that each image was showcased appropriately while capturing the unique characteristics.

B'stro / Artisan Bistro


Project Summary:  Retail & Food Service, Natural Foods Manufacturer

The key challenges were to define the brand's identity and understand its consumer tribes, redesign touchpoints, and identify new product opportunities. We branded the company as a share-worthy brand targeted toward "Chief Wellness Officers." The brand's reach was expanded through evolved packaging, refreshed messages, and new product lines. 


The last product launch included 14 unique categories, 100+ products, 17 product lines, co-packing partnerships, and were sold in over 15,000 retailers.


Artisan Bistro Foods, Inc. achieved impressive results following the expansion of the brand refresh and product line. The company experienced a 35% increase in revenue and a 25% increase in market share. The brand received several accolades, including recognition as a top frozen food brand by various industry publications. In addition, the company successfully expanded its retail markets, including securing distribution in major grocery chains and online retailers.


The key challenges we successfully addressed included:

Conduct in-depth research and analysis to understand the target consumer and market landscape better.

Developing a clear and compelling brand message.

Updating outdated collateral.

Expanding the product line to meet consumer demands.

Firestone Walker - Taproom


Project Summary:  Craft Brewery Resturant and Bar

Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a renowned craft beer brewing company based in California, and with the launch of their sub-brands Vintage and Barrelworks, Firestone Walker Brewing Company needed a brand photographer to develop their visual brand personalities, and capture their food and beverage products and marketing campaigns. Julian has been working with Firestone Walker since 2019, and his expertise helped to take their brand to the next level.


The key challenges were defining and capturing the essence of the Firestone Walker brand and sub-brands through photography. Julian created visually appealing product images that showcase the unique characteristics of each beer, retail, and restaurant item. We developed a consistent and recognizable visual style across all marketing campaigns and product lines, including their Vintage, Barrelworks, Lion & Bear, 805, Taproom, and merchandise, helping Firestone Walker stand out in a highly competitive craft beer market.


Julian worked closely with Firestone Walker's marketing team to develop a photography style aligned with their brand vision and values. He created a set of guidelines for product photography to ensure that each beer was showcased appropriately while capturing its unique flavor profile and characteristics. Julian worked with Firestone to develop a consistent visual style across all marketing campaigns and sub-brands.


Julian's brand strategy expertise helped Firestone Walker stand out in the highly competitive craft beer market, creating a unique and recognizable brand identity, resulting in incredible growth and Firestone becoming one of the top few craft beer companies in the US.

Helen's Kitchen


Project Summary:  Retail & Food Service Natural Foods Manufacturer

Helen's Kitchen brought Julian on board to revamp Helen's Kitchen. Artisan Bistro Foods, Inc. acquired this healthy, vegetarian, frozen foods brand in 2009. The goal was to realign the brand with evolving market and consumer preferences and to stay competitive in a crowded space. 


Julian was responsible for brand strategy, product development, design, marketing, and cross-silo collaboration. Key challenges included overcoming the stigma of vegetarian and tofu products and connecting with a new mainstream market.


The team defined the brand's personality, social cachet, and emotional and functional benefits to attract Chief Wellness Officers looking for healthy, sustainable, and delicious frozen meals. They also identified and connected with HK's consumer tribes and brand fans and designed new strategies to take advantage of developing trends such as sustainable, local, and minimally processed foods.


The brand received accolades from popular media outlets such as ABC's Good Morning America, Fox Business, and Wall Street Journal. The consultancy successfully led the brand evolution and messaging refresh, ensuring that Helen's Kitchen remained relevant and competitive.

BL Brasserie

Working closely with the restaurant staff, we captured stunning images of the elegant interior, professional service, and exquisite dishes the talented chef and sommelier created.
